About a year and a half ago, my husband and I invested in an apartment. What should have been an exciting phase in our lives slowly turned into a time filled with questions, delays, and uncertainty.

I am someone who likes to plan everything carefully. I usually think things through step by step and prepare for different possibilities. If something goes wrong, I normally like to have backup plans ready. Planning gives me a sense of security and control.
But during this time, things were very different.
Because of several health issues, my body was constantly tired. The pain, medications, and fatigue made it difficult for me to focus or even remember things clearly at times. On top of that, the paperwork and processes for the apartment kept getting delayed. Obstacles kept appearing, and nothing seemed to move according to my plans.
Every time something didn’t go as expected, a thought would immediately arise in my mind: If I had planned this properly, this problem wouldn’t have happened.
My mind kept going back to that same pattern of thinking. Combined with the physical exhaustion I was already experiencing, it slowly started to feel like everything around me was falling apart.
At some point, I reached a stage where I was simply too tired — physically, mentally, and emotionally. I realized that I didn’t have the strength to control everything anymore.
And in that moment, I had no choice but to surrender.
I told myself, I cannot manage this right now. Let my husband handle it. It may not happen my way. He will do it his way, and that is okay.
The moment I accepted that, something unexpected happened.
My body relaxed. My mind became lighter. The constant tension I had been carrying slowly disappeared. Even though the delays were still there, I started to feel more present in the process instead of fighting against it.
That was when a simple realization dawned on me: I was the one preventing myself from enjoying the moment.
Sometimes we hold on to control so tightly that we forget life has its own rhythm. We try to make everything happen according to our plans, our timelines, and our expectations. But life does not always unfold that way.
And perhaps it is not meant to.
There are moments in life when the most powerful thing we can do is loosen our grip, trust the process, and allow things to unfold in their own way.
This experience reminded me of the teachings of Sri Ramana Maharshi, who often spoke about surrender. In essence, surrender is not about losing control — it is the deep understanding that the control we believed we had was always an illusion.
Sometimes, when we stop trying to control everything, life begins to flow more naturally. And in that space of surrender, we often find the peace we were searching for all along.
