When I Surrendered: A Journey from Fear to Flow

In the previous blogs, we explored how past experiences quietly shape our reactions, and how gentle practices like Reiki can help the body relax and begin to heal.

But understanding something intellectually is very different from living it.

This is a small part of my own journey.

When Life Felt Uncertain

In early 2019, I lost my father.

Anyone who has experienced a loss like that knows how deeply it shakes you. Even when life continues on the outside, something inside feels fragile, uncertain, and different.

While I was still processing that loss, another challenge quietly unfolded—my job became unstable. By February 2020, I had no job at all.

Then the world itself paused. The COVID lockdown began. Companies stopped hiring. Suddenly, the future felt even more unpredictable than before.

But responsibilities don’t stop when life becomes uncertain. EMIs still ran, bills still needed to be paid, and the pressure to find stability was very real.

Months of Trying

For months, I did everything I could:

  • applied for multiple roles
  • attended interviews
  • followed up consistently

And yet, the pattern repeated.

Things would move forward. Interviews would go well. Conversations felt promising…
and then, it would stop.

Again and again.
With no clear reason.

If you’ve experienced this, you know how exhausting it can feel.
Each opportunity brings hope, and each delay quietly drains your energy.

Over time, I realised something important—
the constant thinking, worrying, and trying to control the outcome was exhausting me far more than the situation itself.

The Moment I Chose to Let Go

At some point, something shifted internally.

Instead of constantly worrying about what would happen next, I made a simple decision:

Whenever a thought about the job search came up, I would quietly tell myself:
“Universe, you handle it.”

And I meant it.

Every time the thought returned, I repeated the same thing.
Not as avoidance, but as a reminder that I had already done my part.

The rest was not in my control.

What Changed

Interestingly, nothing outside changed immediately.

But something inside did:           

  • the constant tension reduced
  • mental pressure eased
  • I felt calmer and more grounded

I wasn’t stuck in the same loop of worry anymore.

And about two months later, something unexpected happened.

I received a job offer.

Not just any job, but one that was stable, aligned with my skills, and something I had once hoped for.

Looking back, it didn’t feel like I forced it to happen.
It felt like things moved when I finally stopped holding on so tightly.

From Fear to Flow

This experience taught me something that Reiki also gently reminds us of:

Change doesn’t always come through force.

  • When we try to control everything, it creates pressure
  • When we soften, even slightly, our energy shifts

And when that shift happens, we respond differently, think more clearly, and allow space for things to move.

Reiki works in a similar way.
It doesn’t “fix” situations instantly, but it helps release internal tension—creating space for clarity, calmness, and flow.

A Gentle Thought

If you are going through a phase where things feel uncertain, it’s natural to want answers and quick results.

But sometimes, the most effective step is not doing more.

It is pausing.

Taking a breath.

And trusting that after doing what you can, you don’t have to carry everything alone.

Because often, the moment we stop forcing outcomes…
is the moment things begin to move again.
